1. Proposed Norfolk Sq Festival tentative date of 15th August.
Bill told those present that at this point nothing had been approved or decided. Rhondell, Reggie and George were working on the proposed Festival as agreed in our AGM.
Richard asked what liabilities would fall on EBRA.
George assured him everything would be done properly through his company with the experience of Bisi Hood (his events safety expert) she would advise us of all that is required by Law and especially the Council.
They were applying for grants to stage this event. The idea being to set a target of £5000 profit. Nothing would be done until we had a Grant and Council approval to hold the event in Norfolk Sq. They would then advise us and provided there is a vote we will proceed to organise the event. There would be a focus on local talent and local radio stations had been approached to provide staging. There would be no bouncy castle.
Mark thought the event should have a focus. George told him that the focus was the residents getting together to take control of maintaining Norfolk Sq. We have been told that due to the severe financial situation in the Country no money would be available to maintain the Square. So it’s up to the residents to maintain it.
In the event of cancellation any grant money received would remain as a donation to EBRA. This money and any other money raised from this event will be used for the maintenance of Norfolk Sq and nothing else.
Bill said insurance quotes were similar. Approximately £380 to cover the event against Public/Personal Liability £5m and Cancellation for whatever reason.
A vote was taken and all present voted proceed with the Planning and the event if approved and Grants available.
Richard Gamper abstained from voting.
Reggie said time was short and everyone needed to give their full support.
2. Geraldine has had to step aside as Treasurer for the time being as her husband is very ill. Sue King has agreed to fill in until things improve for Geraldine or another volunteer can be found to take on the post of Treasurer.
3. Bill told the Committee that at this weeks BARG meeting he was told that parts of Brighton and Hove have been selected to apply to become World Heritage Sites.
The Council are considering the matter on June 10th.
4. Louise Rennison spoke with Richard Gamper some months ago and told him she wishes to make the Community Garden a Trust. It would appear that nothing has been done and no further contact made.
Peggy told us that the Garden was in a bad state due to the bad weather and lack of money.
The Old Market has constantly failed to pay for the use of the Garden for their weddings etc. This is despite having made an agreement with EBRA and Louise Rennison to pay £80 per month for our work and plants.
Many promises to pay have been made and broken.
Hassan & George have agreed to visit The Old Market and try and resolve the issue.
Meeting closed at 12.30 pm
