All the residents objections and comments will be sent to the Planning Inspectorate by Brighton & Hove's Planning Department but it is stressed that only edited highlights will be taken into account. It was felt that EBRA could do no more but advise members and residents as individuals to write any further comments and send to the Inspectorate. The deadline is 25th November write to The Planning Inspectorate, Room 321E, Temple Quay House, 2, The Square, Temple Quay, Bristol BS1 6PN - Quoting App Ref /Q1445/A and The Old Market Trust
Mr Khan the owner of Amber Foods is still causing problems. He has assaulted a Traffic Warden and he has accused another (Black) Traffic Warden of being racist because he is a Muslim. The Police are taking action against him for the assault. Details of the precise charge are not yet being divulged to us by the Police.
In a statement to the Police about other matters Mr. Khan claimed that he had a need to park his van outside his shop (On the pavement) as he was running a Wholesale business from the shop. When checked with the Planning Department it was found that he does not have Planning permission to do this.
The situation is being monitored by Matt Guest of the Planning Department, the Police, Parking Enforcement and Highways. Updates will be sent to EBRA members as the matter is dealt with.
An application to extend the hours in which the doors of the Pub can be left open to accommodate late night drink seekers and smokers has been submitted to Environmental Health and Licensing.
If approved will mean that the doors to the Pub will remain open until 2.30am Friday, Saturday into Sunday. The rest of the week the time the doors would be closed is 1.30am. Nearby residents have major concerns about the extension of hours during which the front doors will be allowed to stay open for smokers etc.
Dark nights and inclement weather have improved the situation but there is still a noise pollution issue due to the smoking ban which will only worsen if the hours are extended.
New residents of Lower Market Street have contacted Bill about the noise levels. This is mostly due to the smoking ban with customers standing smoking and drinking outside the pub. Often across the road from the Pub.
The new residents in Lower Market Street were told by the estate agent that there was no noise problem from the Pub. Should the agents be taken to task over this ongoing issue?
A meeting of residents near to the pub affected by noise is to be arranged to discuss what to do.
Richard Gamper was in contact with City Clean about the new small lid bins that are a problem to use for the less well able and older members of the community. The issue has to be put on hold until agreement was made with the strikers at City Clean.
Bill reported that there was an incident with a lamp post in Waterloo Street which resulted in a car in Waterloo St being damaged. The cast iron post and lantern has been removed for repair by the Lighting Department. Repairs could take up to 2 months. Also a terra cotta pot containing a lemon tree was broken during an attempt to steal it. The police have been informed.
There was no other business - the meeting ended at 1.30 pm.
